How to Launch a Web Site

Step 4: Get Into Google

<<< Step 3 |  Step 5 >>>

It takes so long to get into Google.

Now you have your site on the web... how do you get people to find it? Why, you need to be in Google's index, of course! It's easy:

Google says...

  1. Submit your site via their "Add URL" page as many times as you like... (they'll ignore you).

  2. "The best way to ensure Google finds your site is for your page to be linked from lots of pages on other sites." Oh, that's easy. And

  3. Get your site listed in either the Yahoo directory or the Open Directory Project, and Google should pick it up within 6-8 weeks. Of course, it could be 8-10 weeks before Yahoo or DMOZ add your site, if ever.

Or does it?

I discovered reliable ways to get your website to appear in the Google index within two weeks:

  • Sign up for Google Adwords and create an ad for your site! Google will be indexing your site within a week.

  • Sign up for Google Adsense and put at least one Google Adsense banner on one of your web pages. Load the page a few times with the ad display (don't click on the ads!)... and a Googlebot will be spidering your site within a few hours.
