It all started a long time ago...
My name is Paul. George is a very good and long-time friend of mine. We have
worked together at more
than one place of employment, and were doing so until May of 2001. Knowing we
wanted to remain in touch,
we scheduled a weekly lunch, every Thursday. By the second or third such
lunch, George introduced agenda
to the lunches-- first on paper, and then e-mailed in advance. Over time, the
lunches became more and
more topical, and eventually led to shared reading assignments to prepare for
these discussions.
Neither one of us knows very much about what we are discussing, which is
really the whole point! We want
to know more, and together we are learning about a variety of topics (although
they tend to be pretty
"geeky").
This web site serves as an archive of our topics (to refresh my own poor memory!) and links to much more interesting places where learned folk present actually stimulating material.
It is not intended to be a publication-quality site-- just a place to post various ramblings.
In general, this main page will be the most current, followed by the Recent Lunches pages and
the Mail received from readers. The Discussions by Topic page will get updated whenever I feel like it and have the time. Enjoy!
A note about the Books page: All of the book links on this page lead to Amazon.com. I have provided this as a convenience to those looking to find more information about a book, and also for those who may wish to purchase a book. If you do purchase a book in this manner, I receive a small referral fee from Amazon, which helps defray the cost of maintaining this website. You are certainly free to purchase books anywhere you like, but I'd rather you did so through my site! It works for any Amazon purchase-- not just books. Thanks.
